Pendant series "l'Isola" large. This pendant represents the island of Elba in miniature in a stylised and artistic depiction.
The pendant was cast and is completely solid.
The pendant is made of cast iron and is completely solid.
In protohistoric times, the island was inhabited by the Ilvati, a very ancient population belonging to the Ligurian ethnic group - hence the island's ancient name: Ilva.
The island's origins remain in the past.
Toponyms such as Borandasco with the typical suffix in "asco", also found in Corsica, another neighbouring island, where there were Ligurian populations, remain from this origin. Rich in iron deposits, the island of Elba made possible the rise of the Etruscan civilisation and then the military success of Rome, whose soldiers used as a weapon the javelin with a disposable iron tip, a weapon only possible with a large supply of metal. There are the remains of a Roman villa on the island. During the Middle Ages, watchtowers were built on the island, as well as the Volterraio fortress, which was situated on an inaccessible hill to shelter from pirate raids.
